This Angelic 1993 Goebel/Hummel Celestial Musician Ornament #646 1ST Issue Is Absolutely Heavenly!

The beautiful M.I. Hummel figurines beginnings were in 1935 in Germany, but the art behind the origins went much farther back, to the younger days of Berta Hummel. After attending the Academy of Applied Arts in Munich, Berta joined the Convent of Siessen, which, as of 1860, was dedicated to teaching and was most supportive of the arts. Berta became Sister Maria Innocentia Hummel and taught art at St. Anna, a school for girls, nearby. Families would even have her paint their children’s portraits and the proceeds went to help support the convent. Sister Hummel never stopped sketching caricatures of the Bavarian children from her rural childhood, full of naivety and sincerity. Her artwork and reputation made their way to Munich and came to the attention of Franz Goebel. He thought that figurines of children would bring happiness to the Germans in tough times. An agreement was signed between Goebel’s company and Sister Hummel in January 1935, with the proceeds going to the Convent and history was made.

This charming, 1993, first edition Goebel/Hummel Angel Christmas ornament #646 stands 2 7/8 inches in height. Entitled “Celestial Musician”, this hard-to-find ornament is made of porcelain; hand painted with a matte finish and has a golden cord for hanging on your tree. This precious little angel wears a floor-length, green gown, adorned with yellow stars and a slim red band on the sleeve of her right arm. A brown satchel lies strapped across her body, resting against her right side. Her lovely golden brown hair swoops forward, as a flattering complement to her rosy cheeks. With her eyes glancing downward, lost in the music, she earnestly plays her violin, her right hand holding the bow. This eye-catching angel has gorgeous, crystal-like wings, delicately shaded in yellow and edged in vivid orange-red. The genuine Hummel signature is incised on the back of the ornament and an incised #646, along with Goebel, Germany 1991 marks the base. This piece also boasts an original label that reads “First Issue, Erste Ausgabe, 1993”. Irresistible In Its Charm, Hummel 2004 Star Ornament, MIB – “Christmas Delivery”

The Hummel and Goebel names alone are identifiable with quality porcelain items that are highly collectible due, in part, to their beauty and rich history. This lovely ornament, entitled “Christmas Delivery”, is a perfect example, with its delicate design and dazzling artwork. It is a star-shaped, puff ornament, 4 ½” in height and 4” in diameter, that has raised detailing around its edge. The date of “2004” is at the upper point of the star,

M.I. Hummel’s signature is found at the lower left point, with the blue Goebel insignia at the lower right. Stunning artwork adorns the front of the star, showing an angelic little girl, hair in pigtails, tied at the ends with blue bows. Her hair and orange scarf are charmingly lifted up in the breeze, as she rides a red wooden sled. She is on her way to make her Christmas delivery of the wrapped presents, sitting on the back of the sled, replete with ribbons and bows. The young lass is warmly dressed in a red coat and a matching knit hat with a pompom on top; her green mittens and thick, blue woolen stockings complete her ensemble. A precious doll baby is firmly held by the little girl’s hands, as it rides in front of her on the sled. MI Hummel Figurine Collectible Apple Tree Boy 4"

You can't really afford to miss out on this superb Hummel figurine, Apple Tree Boy. Made of porcelain in West Germany, it depicts a little boy sitting in an apple tree, along with a bluebird. This genuine M.I. Hummel design was crafted, based on the artwork of the celebrated artist, Maria Innocentia Hummel, by the W. Geobel Company. The Apple Tree Boy series was initially designed in 1940 by the master sculptor, Arthur Moeller, and the Last Bee marking on the base of this Hummel figurine, indicates that it was crafted between 1972 and 1979. The figurine is 4" tall and 2.25" wide, and is in excellent condition, and has no chips, cracks, or crazing. The figurine also has the Goebel back stamp as well as the signature of Maria Innocentia Hummel, and includes the original label.
